Optimist Club of Redlands
Service Club/OrganizationWHO ARE THE REDLANDS OPTIMISTS?
THE REDLANDS OPTIMIST CLUB IS A LOCAL SERVICE ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO HELPING THE YOUTH OF REDLANDS AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES.
It is part of Optimist International, which is made up of more than 2600 service clubs in the United States and several other nations. The Redlands club, comprised of community business professionals, retirees, and area service workers has benefitted the community in a variety of ways since its founding in 1947. Club members are dedicated to the work they do for Redlands, and also greatly enjoy each other’s company at noon meetings and in a variety of social events through the year.
WHY BECOME AN OPTIMIST?
IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT SERVICE IS ITS OWN REWARD, AND EVERY REDLANDS OPTIMIST WILL TELL YOU THAT STATEMENT IS TRUE.
Whether through the experience of seeing the joy on a child’s face upon receiving a medal in the Optimist Games, or listening to the speakers at the Optimist Oratorical contest, our members are continually inspired and fulfilled by their work with area youth. The city of Redlands has a long history of service and philanthropy, and we are proud to help carry on this great tradition.
WHAT DO WE DO FOR THE COMMUNITY?
We annually award a number of scholarships, host student functions at our noon meetings, sponsor youth events in the community, and donate generously to other youth-oriented organizations in the Redlands area. Among other things, the Redlands Optimist Club is responsible for hosting an annual car show and Oktoberfest celebration in Sylvan Park just across from the University of Redlands.
